Life & Counters

Everything that isn't a card lives in the stat row at the top of the screen.

Life#

The − and + either side of your total change it by one. Click the total itself for a numpad: type the amount, flip the sign if you're gaining, and apply. It works as a delta, so combat for 7 is "7, apply", not working out the new total in your head.

There's no separate life history panel. Every change is in the game log with who made it, which is where you look when totals don't add up.

Two-Headed Giant teams share one total, 60 to start.

Commander damage#

The shield icon in your stat row opens the commander damage panel. It lists every commander at the table with − and + steppers. Adding damage there also takes it off your life, so you don't record it twice.

Lethal is 21 from any one commander, or 16 in Pauper Commander. The panel shows how close each source is.

The other counters#

Each of these is a stepper in your stat row. Some are on by default and some are opt-in under Trackers in the settings cog, because the row only has so much width.

Tracker Default Notes
Poison On 10 loses. Some formats set it differently and the game uses the right number.
Energy On
Experience On
Speed Off Aetherdrift's "Start your engines!", 0 to 4.
City's blessing Off Ascend. A toggle, and the tab badge shows for anyone who has it.
Death protection Always The angel icon. Flip it on when you can't lose the game this turn, and the table won't count you out at 0.
Empty library wins Always For Laboratory Maniac and friends. Drawing from an empty library flags a win instead of a loss.

Counters on cards (+1/+1, loyalty, charge and so on) are a different thing. Those are on the Game Controls page.

Monarch, Day/Night, Dungeons#

These sit as buttons under your library zone.

  • Monarch opens a picker. Choose who's monarch and a crown appears on their seat. Anyone can move it, which is how it works when combat damage changes hands.
  • Day / Night toggles the shared day and night state for the whole table.
  • Dungeons is off by default. Turn it on under Trackers if your deck ventures and you get a dungeon tracker under your library.

There's no separate initiative tracker. Use the Undercity dungeon and pass it with a note in chat.

Turns and phases#

The phase strip and turn clock are at the top right. Next Phase walks along the strip, Pass Turn hands the turn to the next seat, Extra Turn gives you another. The clock shows the turn number and how long this turn has run. Hover it for per-player turn counts.

Things you can set under Turn in settings:

  • Turn alert pulses or flashes the screen edge when it becomes your turn. Off by default and the flash option comes with a photosensitivity warning.
  • Auto untap and Auto draw do the start-of-turn housekeeping for you. Auto draw skips the first turn of the game.
  • Seat in turn order arranges the opponent panels clockwise from you.
  • Turn hotkeys turns on Space and End.

In Practice mode games, none of this counts toward your stats, so it's the place to learn the controls.
