FAQ

General#

Is TableCommander free?

Yes. Every format, every feature you need to play, no card packs to buy. Supporters on Patreon keep the servers on and get a handful of extras, listed below, but nothing you need for a game is behind them.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in the browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge on desktop all work. Games want a laptop-sized screen or bigger. Phones and tablets are fine for decks, the forum and the companion app.

Is there a mobile app?

Yes. TableCommander Companion is on Google Play, with iOS going through review. It's a life and commander damage tracker for paper games, a card scanner for building collections, and a way to browse your decks. It signs in with a short code from the web app, so no password typing on a phone.

What are the supporter perks?

Bigger tables (6 and 8 seats), voice chat at the table, scheduled tables, creating playgroups, deck folders, card tags inside decks, extra card collections, bigger solo drafts, name styles, custom board backgrounds and your own image as an in-game mat. Supporter status comes from Patreon or from boosting the Discord server.

Accounts#

Can I play without an account?

Yes. Try as Guest on the home page gives you a two hour session. Guests can join a table by invite code, create a private table, and paste a decklist at their seat. Nothing is saved when the session ends.

I forgot my password

Forgot your password? on the login page emails you a reset link. If you signed up with Google or Discord you don't have a password, just use the same button again.

Yes. Connected Accounts on the Account page links Discord, Google and Patreon.

How do I delete my account?

Account page, Danger Zone, Delete Account. It's permanent and takes your decks and history with it.

Decks#

How do I import from Moxfield or Archidekt?

Paste the deck's URL into Import on the Decks page. If you'd rather paste text, that works too. Importing Decks has the detail.

How many decks can I have?

As many as you like. A single deck tops out at 2,000 cards, which no format gets near.

Can I export my decks?

Yes. The ⋯ menu on a deck has Export as Text, Copy as Text and Export as JSON.

Are my decks private by default?

Yes. New decks are Private. Change it in the deck's settings.

Gameplay#

What formats are supported?

Commander, Standard, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pioneer, Pauper, Oathbreaker, Brawl, Tiny Leaders, Pauper Commander, Kamigawa Pauper Tiny Leaders, Pendragon, Un, Dandân, Draft (including Chaos Draft), and the Commander variants Two-Headed Giant, Planechase, Archenemy and Blind Commander. Some of the newer ones are marked Beta in the format list. There's also Kitchen Table for "any deck, no rules".

cEDH isn't a format here. It's Bracket 5 on a Commander deck.

How many players can a game have?

Two, four, six or eight seats. Six and eight are a supporter perk. Some formats fix the count: Two-Headed Giant is four, Dandân is two, Archenemy is four or more.

Can I spectate games?

Yes, any public game. Click Spectate on its card in the lobby. There's nothing for the host to enable and no delay.

Is there a timer or chess clock?

There's a turn clock on every game showing the turn number, the current turn's length and per-player totals. Tables also have an idle timeout, a mulligan timeout and, for drafts, a pick timer. There's no chess clock that ends your turn for you.

Can I undo actions?

No. There is no undo. That's why the turn hotkeys are off by default and Pass Turn asks you to confirm. If you've moved something wrong, move it back; the log shows what happened.

Does it enforce the rules?

No. It's a virtual table, not a rules engine. Cards go where you put them and life is whatever you set it to, the same as paper. What it does automate is the housekeeping if you want it to: auto untap, auto draw, mana floating on tap, emptying the pool at phase changes.

What happens if I disconnect?

Your seat waits five minutes with your turns passed automatically. Come back to the Games page and click Rejoin Game. After five minutes the other players can vote to remove you.

Technical#

The game is running slowly

Turn off the board background under the settings cog, drop the card zoom, and close other tabs. Very large boards (hundreds of tokens) are the usual cause.

Cards aren't loading

Card images come from our own image host, filled from Scryfall. If images are missing for one card it's usually a very new printing that hasn't been imported yet. If nothing loads, it's your connection or an ad blocker being overenthusiastic.

Is this affiliated with Wizards of the Coast?

No. TableCommander is an independent fan project under the Wizards Fan Content Policy. Card data and images are sourced from Scryfall.

Can I run a tournament on it?

Casual ones, yes. There's no tournament mode (pairings, standings, prizes). Playgroups with a leaderboard and scheduled tables cover a league night.

Contributing#

Is TableCommander open source?

No. Ideas and bug reports from players shape most of what gets built, though.

How do I report a bug or suggest something?

The ! button in the game sidebar posts feedback straight to the forum. Outside a game, post in Forum under Bugs or Ideas. Topics get a status as they're picked up, and you're notified when yours changes. Discord works too, but the forum is where things get tracked.

Still stuck?#

Ask on the forum or in Discord. Someone's usually about.
